How Yoga makes you Stay Happy

I have always been asked this question. Is yoga just about asana’s ? Well the answer to this is Yoga is way beyond just asanas. It is a way of living. Yoga is comprised of Yogic knowledge which is the way of living life both on the mat and off the mat. Now a major component of Yoga is meditation. You may ask me how do I stay Happy ?

Well I meditate. Meditation helps me to dive deeper into myself and understand myself better. As there are ups and downs in life it gives me the strength to remain poised come what may. My Guru “Sri Sri Ravishankar” says every being’s purpose of life is to move towards happiness

In order to spread happiness Gurudev says that one has to be established in wisdom so they can not only be happy themselves but, also lead others towards happiness. The more happiness you spread the happier one feels. So what is my mantra to be happy ? It is a combination of a peaceful environment, a good daily routine and a healthy diet. I wake up at 4:30am everyday in which I practice my meditation and yoga practice.

I learnt the Sudarshan Kriya meditation technique when I was in my Masters course in UNC Charlotte. I was studying 4 subjects and had one research project and one research thesis paper to work on. I was working more and resting less. After taking the 4 day Happiness workshop with the Art of Living I practiced the technique “SKY” I leant to deal with my anxiety and helped me learn how to function more efficiently in my daily chores.
