How does Yoga help to deal with anxiety and depression?

Yoga is a combination of yoga asanas, yoga philosophy, meditation, breathing techniques (pranayama). When the natural balance of the body is lost that is when disease happens. Disease first enters the subtle body before entering the physical body. So now anxiety and depression are both connected to the flow of Prana (subtle life force energy) in our body. So, when you feel anxious observe your breath. It is irregular with short and quick breath. One can transition feeling anxious by different techniques.

One of the techniques is being able to practice yoga asanas with awareness to the breath. At first it will need practice but, over time once the body and mind get used to practicing in this pattern it learns to calm itself down over-time.

When one talks about depression my Guru Sri Sri Ravishankarji says :

Do follow and subscribe to his videos here as you read with me. As his profound knowledge will help you sail through life peacefully. He says “When you feel life is meaningless a sense of emptiness comes with you and you feel depressed.” So, keeping a larger goal in life is very important.

Working towards making this planet a better place for everyone around you. I have taken this pledge and I remind myself every day to continue walking in this direction. Life is much more than one can see with one’s own eyes. It is beautiful. We end up getting stuck in our wants and our needs and thus, making us depressed or dull. If we look at the broader perspective in life if we look at how we can change someone’s life or the environment our state of mind is uplifted. Thus, we move away from feeling depressed to feeling fulfilled and content.
